The first thing you need to know about us is that we’re just like you. We’re not clinicians, we don’t have degrees in psychology and before this started we had no idea what the functions of behavior were. Like you we read all the books. Most were heartbreaking/heartwarming personal stories. While it’s nice to know that there are people out there who’ve been through it and come out okay, they didn’t answer the burning questions that kept us up at night. How did you get the therapy you talked about? How did you fight to get your kid the help they needed? Where did you go, who did you talk to and what did you say to them? Like most parents in your situation we learned what we know through trial and error but we had one advantage that most never do. We did everything 3 times over. We had the second bite at the apple and a third time to get it perfect. Learn from our mistakes and our triumphs and maybe you’ll lose some sleep over the right reasons like dating and learning to drive.
Thank you for your contribution to the autism community. We recently described your book on http://www.HealingThresholds.com, a free Web site that provides current information on autism therapies for parents, therapists, teachers, and physicians. We do not endorse any one autism treatment because we believe that autism therapies should be specific to and evolve with the child. We see Healing Thresholds as a tool to facilitate this process.
Please consider linking to this story from your own Web site. Your link would help us get information out to more people. You may have a system in place to do this already or you can copy and paste this:
Navigating Autism was recently highlighted on Healing Thresholds: Parents Write Book to Help Other Families Navigate Autism.
We also send out a free weekly eBrief describing recent additions to our site; you may subscribe at http://autism.healingthresholds.com/subscribe-to-ebrief. Over 16,000 members of the autism community receive this eBrief.
We appreciate your support.
I am just wondering if your children have been checked for Fragile X Syndrome. It is the most common genetic cause of autism. Both of my children have it, which is how I came upon your website.
I appreciate the knowledge on your internet site.
Much thanks!
